Lamb shank is one of the most delicious cuts from the lamb. It is a famous cuisine of the Mediterranean, such as France, Moroccan, and Greek because of its bold Flavors. Lamb shank goes well with warm spices and bold herbs such as rosemary, parsley, and mint that we will use in our recipe today.
How to Grill Lamb Shanks?
Grilling is a cooking method where the food is cooked in direct heat, which gives it some beautiful charred lines because of the grill grates. The cooking process requires the food to be flipped so it is cooked through. On the other hand, braising is another method of cooking the lamb shank. It is when the food is cooked in some liquid but not much. just enough liquid to cook the food in it and the rest to thicken and become a sauce-like consistency.
Ingredients for Grilling Lamb Shanks:
4 lb lamb shanks
2 Tablespoon lemon juice freshly squeezed
1 pinch salt to taste
1 Tablespoon ground black pepper
1 pinch of cayenne pepper to taste
2 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
¼ Tablespoon dried thyme
½ Tablespoon dried mint
¼ Tablespoon dried basil
¼ Tablespoon dried parsley
1 Tablespoon dried rosemary
Instructions for Marinade and Grill Lamb Shanks:
Marinade:
Add All the Marinade Ingredients.
Take a Storage bag and add all the ingredients, 2 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil and a Tablespoon dried thyme, ½ Tablespoon dried mint and ¼ Tablespoon dried basil, ¼ Tablespoon dried parsley, and 1 Tablespoon dried rosemary, 1 pinch cayenne pepper to taste and 1 Tablespoon ground black pepper, 1 pinch salt to taste and 2 Tablespoon lemon juice freshly squeezed.
Mix all the marinade ingredients.
After adding all the ingredients into the storage bag make sure to mix them well so that all the seasonings are well combined.
Add your lamb shanks into the mix.
Put your 4 pounds of Lamb Shanks into the storage bag and make sure all that the meat is submerged in the marinade because we do not want to miss any part of the meat, we want to evenly and equally cover the lamb shank pcs,
Refrigerate the lamb Shanks.
Refrigerate the lamb shanks overnight or at a minimum 1 Hour to let the meat absorb a little bit of the marinade to give it an enhanced flavor before grilling.
Grilling the Lamb Shanks.
Step 1: Preheat the grill
Preheat the grill to medium heat at 325 F-375 F and moderately oil the grates.
Step 2: Once hot
Once the grill is hot take your marinated lamb shanks put them on the grill and cook them until the outside is nicely brown and the internal temperature reaches 125F. It takes about 30 Minutes per side to be done.
Step 3: Remove From the Grill
When Cooked remove the lamb shanks from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes, about 5-7 minutes before serving. Resting the lamb shanks is very important as it improves the taste and texture.
Step 4: When Properly rested
After resting your lamb Shanks for 5 minutes they are ready to be enjoyed. You can also enjoy them with fried sweet potatoes or some Roasted vegetables such as carrots and brussels sprouts.
Presentation:
Start by placing the lamb shank on a plate or in a shallow bowl. Make sure to arrange it nicely, perhaps with the bone pointing upwards for a visually appealing presentation. Sprinkle some fresh herbs like parsley, thyme, or rosemary over the lamb shank for a burst of color and added flavor.
